ne of those days, when I was going to see my brother in town to give him a letter,
written by our father & sealed by our mother, down in those times, when we used to count
the squirrels at home,or killing the ants just to kill time,
or to fill it with tiny drops of guiltiness, drizzle of remorse,
& forgot where we've been coming from or why.
And we've been sleeping, so tired then.
Sleeping, sleep, sleep.
Rain – it's a rain
Rain – falling rain
Rain – where the rain comes from
That's where I belong
Focking rain
So that's then we left town with his pickup, a Dodge, getaway car.
And astray we were driving, away from them lights of the city, where comfort & complacency reigns.
West we were driving, west, interstate, drifting.
Passing places, meadows, ditches, places bland & sad & wasted, good at most just to depose
a dead body, if you have to. And doubtlessly no place, where you wanted a stranger
pressing your face into the dirt & taking your breath, when the last smell you got is the pee of a trucker
heading to Milwaukee or down to the Gulf of Mexico, who cares?
That's where we passed by. That's where we were drifting away.
COLD IS THE NIGHT & DARK IS THE RAIN
GO FIND YOURSELF & WON'T YOU COMPLAIN
TIPPING A TOE INTO THE RIVER OF PAIN
MAJESTICALLY FLOATING UNDER THE ENDLESS RAIN
COLD IS THE NIGHT & DARK IS THE RAIN
GO FIND YOURSELF & WON'T YOU COMPLAIN
And furthermore astray
we went, drifting into the sticks & into the woods
and into the depth & abyss. And I thought to myself, I should better take carenot to kill all them beetles & toads & them mice
and them moles & them lizards & snails, baby snakes & God knows what else
has been crawling here right where this 4-wheeler ploughed us a way through their life. And my brother said:
Brother, let's have us a shot of dead butterfly blood.
COLD IS THE NIGHT & DARK IS THE RAIN
GO FIND YOURSELF & WON'T YOU COMPLAIN
TIPPING A TOE INTO THE RIVER OF PAIN
MAJESTICALLY FLOATING UNDER THE ENDLESS RAIN
COLD IS THE NIGHT & DARK IS THE RAIN
GO FIND YOURSELF & WON'T YOU COMPLAIN
TIPPING A TOE INTO THE RIVER OF PAIN
MAJESTICALLY FLOATING UNDER THE ENDLESS RAIN
COLD IS THE NIGHT & DARK IS THE RAIN
GO FIND YOURSELF & WON'T YOU COMPLAIN
Rain – there's no rainbow
Rain – falling rain
Rain – hear the wind blows
Into the middle of the earth
Where the humming birds dwell
All the highways, mountains & the trees
Focking rain is falling on & on
Every/s cover's washed away from me
Highway's like a diamond in the sun
Highway's like a diamond in the sun
Rain – is getting colder now
Rain – from the frozen clouds
Rain – I'm getting older somehow
Snow's falling down & covering me
Oh white rain is floating over me
Oh white rain it makes me blind
Every thing/sin is floating down to the sea
White rain will drive me out of my mind
White rain will drive me out of my mind
DARK IS THE RAIN & COLD IS THE NIGHT
DON'T BE AFRAID & YOU'LL BE ALRIGHT
THIS WILL BE RUNNING INTO THE SEA OF DELIGHT
SWIM DOWN THE RIVER, DIVE FOR THE LIGHT
DARK IS THE RAIN & COLD IS THE NIGHT
DON'T BE AFRAID & YOU'LL BE ALRIGHT
THIS WILL BE RUNNING INTO THE SEA OF DELIGHT
SWIM DOWN THE RIVER, DIVE FOR THE LIGHT
DARK IS THE RAIN & COLD IS THE NIGHT
DON'T BE AFRAID & YOU'LL BE ALRIGHT
Rain – it's a rain again
Rain – never been the same
Rain – everything is new
How will I come through
Dam/n that rain
All the highways, mountains & the trees
Focking rain is falling on & on
Every/s cover's washed away from me
Highway's like a diamond in the sun
Highway's like a diamond in the sun
Rain – it's a rain
Rain – falling rain
Rain – where the rain comes from
That's where I belong, focking rain
That's where I belong, focking rain
We applaud every man, every woman, every child,
every dog & cat & cow, elephants, every pidgeon,
crow & caterpillar, every snake, snail, lizard, bug or ant,
every spider, worm & maggot in the fruit or in the flesh
for if they were sturdy in life, doing God's will & occasionally #C# smile.
COLD IS THE NIGHT & DARK IS THE RAIN
GO FIND YOURSELF & DON'T YOU COMPLAIN
TIPPING A TOE INTO THE RIVER OF PAIN
MAJESTICALLY FLOATING UNDER THE ENDLESS RAIN
THIS WILL BE RUNNING INTO THE SEA OF DELIGHT

DON'T BE AFRAID & YOU'LL BE ALRIGHT
SWIM DOWN THE RIVER DIVE FOR THE LIGHT
DON'T BE AFRAID & YOU'LL BE ALRIGHT
SWIM DOWN THE RIVER DIVE FOR THE LIGHT

The Taxpayers were able to put down a tacklist of songs that allow us to go on a journey. In this album we experience the manic highs and lows one may experience in a life long battle with deteriorating mental health. The picture at times grim and beautiful is one I continually come back to as its tragedy never fades. Ulysses Johnson
